Sharing your Open Educational Resources with the World

You have created your educational material with open in mind from the start and are now ready to share them with the rest of the world! Where to begin? In the past you may have put the resource on a departmental server, sent the link to a few colleagues around the world and that was that.

Have you ever considered how difficult it may be for those not knowing the exact link to find your resource? Things stored on the web often need to be described in order to be discoverable. Ensuring the Creative Commons license is present on your resource will ensure people know what they can do with it once the discover it! Always attributing the original author.

Before we get to that we will need somewhere to put your OER before we can begin describing it on the web. OER needs a place to sit, or a home where people can access using the internet. Did you know that sharing your resource publicly using the VULA learning management system here at UCT is easy! Watch the following screencast for an example of how that can be done using the resources tool.

Listing OER in the UCT Directory

Once the actual UCT directory is up and running I will add instructions on adding and describing resources here.

Fifth Assignment

The fifth assignment will require the student to submit some OER to the UCT OER directory.

Listing OER in International Directories

The UCT directory aims to make your resource as discoverable as possible by linking itself automatically to all of the major international OER directories. This ensures your resource is listed along with other resources from MIT, Harvard, and the University of Michigan.
